Why is ICER launching ICER Scientific Advice?

At ICER, we believe that treatments should be priced in line with the value they deliver to patients. Treatments that work well should command higher prices; treatments that don’t work as well, should be priced lower. We also believe that when treatments are priced to value, payers should respond by offering fair access to these treatments in their policies and this pricing system encourages companies to invest in truly innovative treatments. That’s what we mean when we say our vision is, “Fair Price, Fair Access, Future Innovation.”

ICER’s independent research focuses on using best practices of HTA to benchmark the value of new treatments based on the available evidence. Our “Health Benefit Price Benchmark” range has become a trusted reference for US payers, policymakers, patients, and manufacturers for how a treatment should be priced.

However, many manufacturers fail to collect the right kind of evidence in their clinical trial programs to take full advantage of the HTA process and thus find themselves unprepared for value assessments in the US and elsewhere. This serves no one; least of all, the patient in need of treatment. We want to change that.
